Sophia Sanitary Board unanimously accepts sewer project, adopts bond ordinance and drug-free workplace policy

The Sophia Sanitary Board met Aug. 8 at Town Hall and unanimously approved a sewer project described in a July 13, 2024, USDA letter of conditions, adopted a bond ordinance and enacted a Drug-Free Workplace policy, according to the board’s minutes.
John Bolen moved to accept the financial report and the meeting minutes; both motions were seconded by Doug King and passed with all members voting in the affirmative. Rob Godbey gave the plant operations report, saying staff are performing routine maintenance, replacing a motor and working on a new plant site.
On the sewer project, the board noted that plans are under review at the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and that the board is awaiting DEP comments and permits from the state Department of Health. The board voted to accept the project as outlined in the USDA letter of conditions dated July 13, 2024; the motion was moved by John Bolen, seconded by Doug King and approved by all members present (Ralph Sallie, John Bolen, Doug King, Rob Godbey and Thrasher).
The board also voted to adopt a Drug-Free Workplace policy and to approve a bond ordinance; both measures were moved by Bolen, seconded by King and passed unanimously. Members signed documents for loans and grants related to the sewer project during the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
