Navajo Prep board approves personnel-policy amendment; approves resignations, hires and staff travel

The Navajo Preparatory School Board voted to amend its Personnel Policy and approved personnel memos and travel requests at a Nov. 15, 2024 meeting held at the Navajo Preparatory School Hogan.
Head of School Shawna Becenti reviewed a resolution to amend the Personnel Policy to clarify active employment status and the classification of substitute positions. Dr. Bernadette Todacheene moved approval and Vice President Craig Sandoval seconded; the motion carried 4-0-0.
The board also approved personnel memos listing resignations and new hires after a review by Manuel Watchman, Division Director of Business and Human Services. Anderson Yazzie Jr. moved to approve the personnel memos and Dr. Bernadette Todacheene seconded; the vote was recorded as 3-0-0.
Two travel requests tied to International Baccalaureate professional development were approved. Becenti reviewed requests for Brent Garcia to attend the IB School Theatre Association DP Workshop (Feb. 20–24, 2025, Ontario, Canada) and for Keith Neil to attend the California Association of IB World Schools Workshop (June 18–25, 2025, Lake Tahoe, California). The board approved both travel requests on a motion by Anderson Yazzie Jr., seconded by Dr. Bernadette Todacheene; vote 3-0-0.
