Navajo Preparatory School board elects Sherrick Roanhorse president; officers affirmed

The Navajo Preparatory School Board of Trustees elected Sherrick Roanhorse as board president during its regular meeting on Aug. 16, 2024, following an executive session held from 3:25 p.m. to 3:48 p.m.
Nominations for president included Craig Sandoval and Sherrick Roanhorse. After the executive session, a verbal ballot resulted in three votes for Sherrick Roanhorse and zero votes for Craig Sandoval. The board then nominated Craig Sandoval for vice president and Dr. Bernadette Todacheene for secretary; both were affirmed by unanimous board voice votes.
The nominations began during the New Business portion of the meeting. Anderson Yazzie Jr. nominated Craig Sandoval for president and requested the Member At Large position; Dr. Bernadette Todacheene nominated Sherrick Roanhorse. The board recessed into executive session and reconvened to take the verbal vote for president.
Board officers will serve until the board’s next governance actions; the board also agreed to re-open the revised by-laws for additional revision at the December meeting. The board established a quorum at 2:08 p.m. at the start of the meeting, and the next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Navajo Preparatory School - Hogan.
