Norfolk accepts application to replace two failing culverts on Westside Road

The Town of Norfolk Inland Wetlands Commission on July 6 accepted an application to replace two deteriorated culverts on property accessed from Westside Road.
Applicant Susannah Wood told the commission the culverts, installed decades ago beneath a dirt road that provides alternate access over Swift Hill, are failing and the driving surface is eroding. She said her contractor proposes replacing the existing culverts with aluminum pipe of the same size, that material would be removed and stored on site while work proceeds, and that the contractor estimated the work would take only a few days.
Commission member Myron Kwast asked whether the road would be improved or paved; Ms. Wood said the work would be limited to culvert replacement and would not include paving or other improvements. Vice-Chairman Jill Chase requested the contractor provide information about materials and construction methods, and Ms. Sefcik suggested a sketch or cross-section and recommended the contractor attend the next meeting to answer technical questions.
Mr. Kwast moved and Ms. Chase seconded a motion to accept Application #26-007, Replacement of Two Culverts in the Regulated Area at Assessor's Map 7-10-23 Westside Road; the motion was unanimously approved. The commission will review contractor details and the applicant's submitted materials at a subsequent meeting.
