West Milford adopts Community Energy Plan to pursue clean‑energy goals and infrastructure

On June 24 the West Milford Township Council adopted a Community Energy Plan prepared by J. Caldwell & Associates and dated June 24, 2026. The plan aligns the township with the State Energy Master Plan objective of reaching 100% clean energy by 2050 and identifies a slate of near‑term priorities to pursue over the next three to five years.
Adopted priorities include training first responders on electric vehicles (EVs) and EV supply equipment (EVSE), training first responders on solar safety, installing public EV charging infrastructure, installing on‑site municipal renewable energy generation, and upgrading energy efficiency across municipal facilities. The plan also recommends outreach campaigns targeting residential, commercial and large energy users, and suggests a green building policy and benchmarking/commissioning for existing buildings.
Mayor Michele Dale said the township pursued and received a grant to support the Community Energy Plan, and Councilman Michael Chazukow described the adoption as an amendment to the Master Plan with significance for future clean‑energy infrastructure across the township. The resolution adopting the plan is on file with the Township Clerk.
