Pownal elects moderator and fills local offices in secret ballot

Voters elected Alan “Bo” Chesney as moderator and chose candidates for Select Board/Assessor, Cemetery Commissioner and an RSU #5 seat in a secret-ballot election; results were announced before the June 22 town meeting reconvened.
Alan “Bo” Chesney was elected moderator by written ballot at the start of Pownal’s municipal meeting process and sworn in; he then appointed Kathy Hogue as deputy moderator, who also took the oath. The town opened secret-ballot voting for municipal and school committee positions and later read results.
Katherine Day received 633 votes for Select Board/Assessor (7 write-ins, 91 blanks). Lorraine Merrill received 651 votes for Cemetery Commissioner (4 write-ins, 76 blanks). For the RSU #5 Board seat, Melissa Jordan received 309 votes and Meaghan Arena 283 (7 write-ins, 132 blanks).
The elections were handled under standard town procedures and votes were tabulated and announced prior to the full town meeting on June 22, 2026.
