Mont Vernon sets summer event calendar: Egg Hunt review, June 7 Fishing Derby, June 28 yard sale, concerts start July 8

The Mont Vernon Recreation Department reviewed recent and upcoming community events at its April 21 meeting. Committee minutes show positive feedback from the recent Egg Hunt (4,000 eggs used); volunteers were thanked and organizers said the bus loop near the playground worked well for the Egg Toss.

The committee confirmed the Fishing Derby for June 7, 2026. The minutes state fish have been ordered and some are tagged; special prizes will be awarded for catching a tagged fish. Pelletier will donate one tent (per Ben) and the committee will fund another; Jessica Hinckley was asked to confirm tent logistics with Ben.

The annual yard sale was discussed; 2025 fell on the last Sunday in June and drew strong attendance despite some participants objecting to a Sunday date. The committee tentatively set the 2026 yard sale for June 28, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM, and plans to produce an updated map and offer a central location at McCollum Field.

For summer entertainment, the committee reported that five concert dates are officially booked. The series will begin July 8 and continue each Wednesday through Aug. 5, with three returning bands and two new bands. The committee discussed whether to add a sixth concert night or feature high-school performers. Heritage Commission has requested a Movies on the Green event in late August, to be scheduled when daylight conditions are appropriate.

Under Old Business members reviewed pickleball operations: the current fee of $10 per year will continue to cover equipment costs, and the committee discussed pausing indoor programming over the summer for players who prefer to play outside.

The Recreation Department set its next meeting for May 19 to finalize event logistics and confirmations.
