Temple ISD outlines summer construction, safety upgrades and bond planning

Temple ISD facilities staff updated the board on a broad set of summer construction and safety projects, saying many safety measures funded by recent elections are finished and that multiple capital projects are underway.
Facilities presenter Mr. Boyd detailed completed work at the high school and elsewhere: renovated science labs ready for August, an auditorium roof replacement paid through insurance and bond funds, classroom and library furniture replacement, LED lighting upgrades completed in June, expanded impact-resistant film on first-floor windows and doors, and increased fencing around playgrounds to improve campus security.
"This will allow us to make some classrooms on 2nd Floor ... this is a significant improvement for our kids," Mr. Boyd said while reviewing photos of completed science-lab renovations. The presenter also said LED lighting and seating replacements are substantially complete and that some larger items (auditorium seating, high-school HVAC and certain flooring) remain on a tight schedule for completion before/early in the next school year.
Safety and schedule: Board members noted that safety projects funded by last November’s proposition (VADER funds, as described in the presentation) were either complete or will be finished before school begins; staff confirmed impact-resistant film, CO2 sensors and alarms and fencing were in place by July 1.
Bond planning and next steps: Staff said architects and program-management teams are engaged for Bond 2025 projects and that the first projects (high-school classroom and gymnasium work) are in early planning and procurement stages. Staff also highlighted operations consolidation (new facilities/warehouse and school-nutrition spaces) and ongoing HVAC work on a tight timetable.
The board received the update; staff said they will return with procurement requests and approval items as projects require board action.
