Narrows council approves minutes, accepts donated benches and OKs small PSA compensation change

The Narrows Town Council on Sept. 9 approved several routine and community items, including minutes from the Aug. 12 meeting, acceptance of two donated park benches and a small compensation change for PSA board members.
Chair called for approval of the August minutes and the consent agenda; the council voted unanimously. A representative described a donation from the class of 1976 of two benches for the small park and asked for staff coordination on setbacks and concrete pads. The council moved to accept the donation and to have staff member Terry Nicholson coordinate placement; the motion carried.
Council approved a minor compensation change for PSA board members (full member $100, alternate $50, with alternates paid a full member amount when voting in a member’s place). The council also heard that while replacing gutters at the fire department contractors found rotten fascia and replaced it at a cost of $2,600 to be paid from the general fund.
Staff updated the council on police fleet replacements, saying one replacement vehicle has arrived and others are in process; staff expect shorter loan terms to reduce interest and estimated monthly payments of about $1,300 for a financed truck.
Votes at a glance: the council unanimously approved the Aug. 12 minutes; the consent agenda; acceptance of two donated benches; the PSA compensation change; and later approved the Virginia Avenue pump-station contract. The meeting concluded after a brief fire-department update and an adjournment vote.
