Council holds several grant confirmations after finance clarifies packet figures

At the Oct. 6 meeting council members asked the director of finance to explain apparent discrepancies between grant amounts listed on the agenda and the funds the departments reported having received.
A councilor noted that items 7h through 7l — which include several grant confirmations, among them automated traffic enforcement revenue and state grants — appeared on the packet as though funds were already in hand. The police chief had told the council he did not recognize the full amount reported in the packet for his department.
Director of finance Karl Erlacher explained the calendar timing: the council had previously accepted a $100,000 confirmation, additional funds came in after the packet went to press, and some anticipated dollars remain outstanding. Erlacher said the city had received a separate check last Friday (transcript text: "$3.75") on top of the earlier amount and agreed to update the packet and minutes to reflect the correct totals.
Because of the uncertainty, the council agreed to hold items 7h–7l pending confirmation and to ask the director to bring an updated report to the next meeting. Council members emphasized the need for accurate reporting to maintain fiscal accountability.
