Middletown authority endorses purchase of parcel for failing North Main pump station

Staff told the Water Pollution Control Authority that the North Main Street pump station is failing and that acquiring a neighboring parcel owned by the Department of Transportation would allow the authority to site a replacement station.
Chief Engineer Brian Robel said the authority received appraisal/assessment materials and recommended a resolution to proceed to finance and the commons council for purchase of the approximately 3,800-square-foot parcel. Board members asked clarifying questions about siting direction and design; Robel said the engineering design is underway with Weston & Sampson and that the purchase is a preparatory step to allow the project to move forward.
A motion to support the land purchase was seconded and approved by voice vote; staff will take the resolution to the appropriate finance/government and council bodies for final authorization and appropriation.
