The Town of Montreat Board of Commissioners on Nov. 14 voted unanimously to defer two proposed zoning text amendments, citing the need for additional revisions and attorney review.
Mayor Pro Tem Mason Blake had submitted TA-2022-04 on behalf of the board to align local ordinance language with recent General Assembly legislation. Blake said he had three revisions to paragraph 2c and provided the proposed wording to Zoning Administrator Kayla DiCristina earlier that day; Town Attorney Brandon Freeman said he wanted to complete further research before recommending approval. Commissioner Jane Alexander moved to defer TA-2022-04 to a date certain; Commissioner Tom Widmer seconded and the motion carried 5–0.
Commissioner Kitty Fouche moved to defer TA-2024-04 to a date certain; Mayor Pro Tem Blake seconded and the motion carried 5–0. The minutes record that board members want revised language reviewed by staff and the town attorney prior to a future vote.
Next steps: staff and the town attorney will refine the ordinance language and return the items to the board for consideration.
