Principals report: ESY enrollment, greenhouse donations and active-threat training

District principals briefed the board on summer programs, facility support and safety preparations.
Middle-school principal Patrick West reported ESY began July 7 with 28 students enrolled in reading, writing and math programs; the Rotary Club funded a new fan and heating system for the greenhouse and community volunteers helped with installation. He described a hands-on egg-drop event led by a Dartmouth College visitor and noted student open-house days scheduled for Aug. 24 and Aug. 27.
West and high-school principal Jacob Hess both described an active-threat training organized with Blue Tier Tactical and local officers; staff conducted reunification drills and incorporated lessons into updated staff and student-handbook language. Hess summarized an NES collaborative decennial visit that followed an eight-month self-reflection process and said the district will develop a two-plus-year school-improvement plan based on the review.
Both principals thanked custodial and facilities staff for summer preparations and noted ongoing curriculum work tied to Ed 306 rules and AP/unified-class updates; student-handbook revisions will be delivered in August.
