Milton advances full application for Southeast Crescent grant to fund second well and water upgrades

“Reviving Milton: Essential Water Infrastructure for Community Resilience” is the title of the application Milton submitted to the Southeastern Crescent Regional Commission, she said, and the town was one of 21 applicants invited to file a full application after an initial pool of 65 pre-applicants. The full application is due July 18, 2025.
Upchurch said Harvin Engineering completed a required preliminary report for a proposed secondary well site. The engineering work cost $4,000, which she said was less than the $5,000 estimate approved by the board the prior month. Staff from the Piedmont Triad Regional Council are assisting with the application; Upchurch said PTRC staff member Hope Stuart had been expected at the meeting but was ill and could not attend.
Why it matters: the town told commissioners the second well would serve as a secondary water source and be paired with upgrades to the existing well and pump. If funded, the work would increase redundancy for Milton’s water supply and reduce the town’s vulnerability to outages.
