At the June 30 meeting, council members discussed automating the town’s business and alcohol-license processes to reduce administrative burden and improve compliance. Mark Leonard said the council should explore OpenGov as a vendor option or identify a computer-literate town resource who could implement automation.
Members also highlighted gaps in mass communication with local businesses and agreed to work on a communications strategy that could include a consolidated website or regular newsletter using available email and mailing lists. The council noted it already has access to multiple business lists (property owners, licensed and unlicensed businesses) and agreed to add a question about heating, insulation and air-conditioning capabilities to future business outreach surveys to inform shoulder-season planning.
Next steps include follow-up research on OpenGov and options for either contracting with a vendor or staffing implementation internally, plus drafting content and distribution lists for a business-facing newsletter or website.
