The Juneau Fire Department on April 15 accepted a $1,300 donation from Gratton Garages to be used toward another personal thermal-imaging camera and approved routine business including the agenda, previous meeting minutes, and the treasurer's report. Brian Smedema moved to approve the agenda (seconded by Curt Ninmann); Jessy Schuster moved to accept the minutes (seconded by Jermey Schuster); and the treasurer's report was accepted after a motion by Brian Smedema and a second from Steve Graff. All motions carried; vote tallies were not specified in the minutes.
The department recorded several operational updates: fit testing was completed, batteries were ordered to replace SCBA-pack batteries, and ongoing hose testing will continue pending weather. Apparatus 2371 has a water leak at a swivel that was reported as not covered by warranty; Seagrave inspected the truck and will follow up with details by email. Truck checks must be completed per policy 602 (every third Wednesday and after every call).
Fundraising and community support items included a Trap Shoot fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 12, 2026, and a requested department presence at the Dodge County Fair, where the department expects one demonstration in the mid-afternoon. Dave Beal moved that the department purchase a full-page $120 ad in the fair book (seconded by Curt Ninmann); the motion carried.
Membership notes: Deb Quackenboss is slated to leave for deployment at a future date. Monthly cleanup duties were assigned to Curt Ninmann and John Schuster. The meeting minutes were submitted by Trustee Erin Schuster. The meeting adjourned after a motion by Curt Ninmann (seconded by Nick Zank); that motion carried.
Items flagged for follow-up include completing ESO checklists weekly, consistent use of the IAR incident-reporting tool, ensuring members take required online courses (including ICS-800), and scheduling operator-class training for apparatus drivers with the requirement of two training days per month. The department also adopted a second monthly training night on the second Thursday at 6:30 p.m., following a motion by Dan Wegener (second by Curt Ninmann).
