Chief Eddie Weiss called the Juneau Fire Department executive meeting to order on April 15, 2026, and the board approved a routine agenda and suspension of reading the minutes. With no public comment, the meeting proceeded through a set of administrative and operational updates.
The meeting focused on internal readiness and training requirements. Department policy 514 was discussed; the record shows the department expects at least two trainings per month, totaling a minimum of 12 trainings per year. Fire Rescue One was identified as an independent-study option: personnel should complete two trainings monthly (one in person and one online) and any completed independent study will be credited to the individual’s personnel file. The record specifies that all independent-study training must be finished by Dec. 31.
Operational procedures and certifications were another emphasis. The record also recommends that fire inspections be carried out by a certified fire inspector and that apparatus drivers complete a Driver Operator class to be considered qualified drivers. SPS 330 and ICS 800 training were mentioned; the ICS 800 course is available online and was recommended for all personnel.
Policy updates were reported: Health and Safety Committee policy 819 and the SCBA policy 808 were listed as updated in the meeting minutes. On equipment, the department currently has three personal thermal imaging cameras and discussed acquiring a fourth.
The department noted community support obligations: staff will provide stage coverage at the Dodge County Fair; organizers scheduled only one demolition derby this year, late in the afternoon. Administrative items listed as having no report included SOG rewrite and review, old business, preplan, personnel, and fundraising.
