The Mount Airy City Board of Education met Oct. 21, 2025, at the district Central Office and approved its agenda and a consent package that included a budget resolution, charter school disbursements, field-trip and fundraiser approvals, and an SRO officer memorandum of understanding.
Board member Jayme Brant moved to approve the agenda; Kyle Leonard seconded. The roll-call vote recorded five aye votes; Ben Cooke and Mark Welch were absent and the motion carried. Later in the meeting, Kyle Leonard moved and Thomas Horton seconded approval of the monitoring reports and consent agenda; the same roll-call result was recorded and the consent package was approved.
The board recognized staff and school community members for district awards: Lead awards to Beth Lowry and Beth Bohart, an Innovate award to SRO Allison Tilley and a Service award to Jenniffer Gentry.
Chair Tim Matthews noted a board breakfast scheduled for Nov. 5 at Jones at 8:00 a.m. The superintendent's report listed the BOE student representative's report, teaching and learning report and operations report; substantive details of those reports are not included in the meeting record.
At 7:12 p.m. the board voted to enter closed session. Kyle Leonard moved and Jayme Brant seconded a motion citing the need "to prevent the disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential pursuant to the law of the state or of the United States or not considered a public record within the meaning of Chapter 132 of the General Statutes, and to consider personnel matters." The board returned to open session at 7:34 p.m. and, on a subsequent motion by Kyle Leonard seconded by Thomas Horton, approved the Personnel Report by roll-call vote.
Kyle Leonard moved and Jayme Brant seconded adjournment at 7:35 p.m.; the motion carried. Members recorded present and voting in favor were Tim Matthews, Jayme Brant, Thomas Horton, Kyle Leonard and Randy Moore; Ben Cooke and Mark Welch were absent.
