An applicant presented a zoning variance request at Milton’s Nov. 11 meeting seeking to convert a white house and porch into an inn with an associated public coffee shop.
Chris (identified in the meeting as the property purchaser) made a short presentation describing the proposed change and asked the board to consider the variance. The board noted that the commercial row ends before that property and reminded attendees that C1 zoning allows mixed use but that variances are permanent for the property. Commissioners discussed inserting conditions into the variance that could allow the property to convert back in the future if circumstances change.
Mayor Angela Upchurch and others confirmed that the variance application must go before the Planning Board for formal review and recommendation; the Town Board did not vote on the variance Nov. 11. The record indicates the Planning Board will examine the request and return a recommendation to the board for final action.
Next steps: the applicant’s variance will be reviewed by the Planning Board; the board will consider any Planning Board recommendation at a later meeting.
