The proposed revision clarifies that when a holiday falls on Sunday the town will observe the holiday the following Monday, and it sets options for employees to take holidays at a later date with department head approval.
Council members debated past practice and proposed an amendment to treat the Monday after a Sunday holiday the same way the town treats Fridays that accompany a Thursday holiday. A motion to adopt Resolution 26-08 with that amendment passed on a voice vote.
Members noted the change was primarily to reduce instances when employees and the public experience a disruptive three-day work week and to provide consistent expectations for different scheduling structures across departments. Staff will incorporate the precise language into the personnel policy and publish the updated policy effective immediately upon adoption.
