Lyme Recreation Commission will reuse existing breakaway home-run fence for 2026 season

The Lyme Recreation Commission voted to use the breakaway home-run fence it already owns rather than buy a larger, upgraded model for this season.
Commission members discussed that an initial vendor quote of $588 rose to about $1,300 plus shipping after the commission requested a larger-size fence and encountered long lead times. Commissioners also noted the field is used by spring soccer and that the fence must come down immediately after spring baseball because other programs, including a pond program, begin on June 20. Given the higher cost and timing constraints, the commission decided to retain and deploy its current breakaway fence for 2026.
The decision was formalized by a motion from Luke Prince, seconded by Ashley Luurtsema, and the motion passed unanimously. The commission said it may consider purchasing an upgraded fence for the 2027 season if the current solution proves inadequate.
The action is intended as a temporary, season-specific measure to avoid disrupting spring soccer and other scheduled programs while limiting one-time expenditures this year.
