Westgate CRA authorizes $1.45 million for Cherry Road streetscape construction

Elizée Michel, executive director, briefed the board on the Cherry Road Streetscape project and requested authorization to provide $1,450,582.84 to the Palm Beach County Engineering Department to fund construction.
The project, funded through a Florida Department of Transportation grant administered by the Palm Beach County Transportation Agency, includes a new shared multi-use path on the north side of Cherry Road, a sidewalk on the south side between Quail Drive and County Club Road, pedestrian lighting on both sides of the corridor, four high-visibility crosswalks, and street trees where allowable. The county engineering design is complete and a contractor has been selected.
Staff presented a construction cost estimate of $1,450,582.84, broken down as $1,208,819.04 for the construction contract, $120,881.90 for county staff costs (10%), and $120,881.90 for contingency (10%). The board authorized staff to provide the additional funds to the county (motion by Joanne Rufty, seconded by Teliska Wolliston; vote 4-0).
The project will be managed by the Palm Beach County Engineering Department with reimbursement grant procedures; CRA staff indicated two projects are under construction and one more remains to start under the transportation enhancement program.
