Vigo County leaders recommend 3% pay increase for county employees

The chair said the county’s revenue projections show Vigo County is financially strong and recommended a 3% pay increase for county employees. "To continue to move the county forward and provide the mandated services for the people of Vigo County, we are recommending a 3% pay increase for county employees," the chair said.

The recommendation followed presentations of revenue projections for 2027 and beyond. One commissioner voiced full support, noting the county took two to three years to bring employee pay to appropriate levels and that it would not be prudent to reverse course: "I don't think that it's time to take a step back and not give a raise this year ... I fully support that as well," the commissioner said.

Another participant on the dais described the 3% figure as "a good starting point," citing rising insurance and other costs and urging employee buy-in.

The chair said county officials will continue to work together to contain costs while providing and improving services. A speaker on the dais noted that it was unclear at the meeting whether the recommendation would be introduced as a formal resolution; no formal vote on a pay ordinance or resolution was recorded in the session's minutes.
