Chair Betsy Daub used the commission’s chair report to update members on several village matters. She said the commission is still seeking funding for renovations to the Mooney Bridges and highlighted recent outreach: Planning & Zoning submitted an informational article to the July 17 edition of After the Thunder to guide common questions.
The commission reviewed the 1998 Dark Sky Ordinance No. 132 and compared it with Village Code Chapter 51 (Lighting), updated in 2020. As part of the review, staff added a 'see Village Code Chpt 51' note to the Building Permit and Conditional Use Permit forms that are currently being revised.
The minutes record that the church owning the Paraclete chapel is eager to move forward with demolition, but commissioners noted there may be archaeological restrictions and that some prospective buyers have expressed interest in the property. The commission did not record a formal decision on demolition at this meeting.
Commissioner Cliff Elliott updated the group on financial penalties allowable under the Village Code and encouraged colleagues to share views with the chair about penalty structure. Commissioner Talia Michelle reported on the July 15 Village Council meeting. The commission rescheduled its regular meeting to Aug. 26, set a special meeting for code review on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m., and appointed Susanna Cooper to attend the Village Trustees meeting on Aug. 19 as the P&Z representative.
Next steps: the commission will hold a special code‑review meeting Aug. 12 and continue to refine permit forms and the dark‑sky cross references; no final decisions about the Paraclete chapel demolition were recorded.
