Alisal Union School District trustees on July 15 appointed Alejandra Magana as an assistant principal and approved multiple staffing and contract items, including a California Teachers Association release-time agreement and two new paraeducator positions.
The board reconvened from closed session and reported a 5–0 vote to appoint Alejandra Magana as assistant principal for the Barton elementary site. The appointment followed a closed-session personnel discussion; the board did not provide additional details in open session beyond the formal appointment announcement.
During open session the board approved a CTA release-time agreement for Amy C. Edwards for the 2026–27 school year. Trustee Jesus Velasquez moved the agreement and Trustee Robert Ocampo seconded; the motion passed 4–0 with one trustee absent. The board also approved a request to add two full-time equivalent paraeducator positions (Paraeducator 4). That motion was moved and seconded and carried 4–0 with one member absent.
The consent agenda — which includes routine contract ratifications, MOUs, grants and similar items — passed 4–0 with one trustee absent. Staff also told the board they will reject two bids received for the district’s Virginia-area project and return after reevaluating the project plans and schedule. "We need to reevaluate the plans we have and the timing of that project," Associate Superintendent Jahis Abbasi said, explaining the recommendation to reject the bids and revisit the specifications before reissuing or rescoping the work.
The board heard several informational items and first readings of governance policies; staff emphasized a revision to Board Policy 2110 that references mandatory ethics training for any superintendent hired after Jan. 1, 2026. Documentation of that training will be retained for public records compliance.
The meeting packet included a Williams uniform complaints quarterly report (April 1–June 30, 2026) and a performance audit report for the Fremont reconstruction project as informational items.
The board listed upcoming presentations on nutrition services and early learning, upcoming unaudited actuals presented by Associate Superintendent Jahis Abbasi, and scheduled regular meetings on Aug. 26 and Sept. 16.
The board adjourned at 8:53 p.m.
