Council members said the department is in strong shape after Hayes’ tenure. The council announced it will accept applications to fill the fire chief position and discussed informal ideas such as retiring a jersey in recognition of Hayes’ service. No formal appointment was made at the meeting.
The council thanked Hayes for his service; staff and council members said they would follow the formal hiring process and post the vacancy.
