Northfield assessors review FY27 valuation outlook; approve motor-vehicle abatements

The Northfield Board of Assessors met June 10, 2026, at Town Hall and approved the minutes of its May 13 meeting following a motion by Robert MacEwen and a second from Alice Lord.
The board reviewed motor-vehicle excise abatements. The minutes record that 10 abatements from the 2026 levy were approved totaling $594.82, and the June monthly list was signed for the town Accountant and the Treasurer/Tax Collector.
Duane Adams of Mayflower Valuations provided the board with an update on revaluation work and field inspections. Adams reported that real-estate values generated for FY27 “do not show a significant increase” overall, with the land component showing most of the upward pressure. He also reviewed 2026 sales-to-date and noted that sale prices are generally closer to assessed values. The board recorded that inspections on select personal-property accounts were conducted May 16 and that affected businesses were notified.
The minutes show the FY2027 commitment and warrant totals as listed in the record: $3,785,423.50 for real estate, $1,123,717.11 for personal property and $13,742.27 for Community Preservation Act commitments. The notation in the minutes for the real-estate figure was unclear in the transcript; the amounts above reflect the values as recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board signed a Chapter 61(1) lien revision for Jaworski/Thomas to reflect an ownership change.
Board members also reviewed month-end budget reports and bills to date, and recorded a reimbursement to Bethany Walker for postage of $14.05. The board announced its next meeting for July 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 2:07 p.m.
