The Town of Beacon Falls Planning & Zoning Commission on June 18 approved several procedural and permit items, including a reduction in the commission’s sediment-and-erosion control bond for the Hopp Brook Estates subdivision, an excavation and grading permit for 40 Lancaster, and the reelection of commission officers.
The commission voted 9-0 to reduce the Planning & Zoning sediment-and-erosion control bond for Hopp Brook Estates to $100,000 while retaining the Inland Wetlands Commission’s $50,000 bond, preserving a combined financial security of $150,000. Commissioner Marc Bronn moved the bond reduction; Commissioner Richard Testa seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Attorney John P. Marini had told commissioners that the form of the financial security was less important than ensuring there was a clear mechanism to draw on the bond if needed.
The body also approved application PZC-03192026-EG for 40 Lancaster, an excavation and grading permit. Staff reported the Inland Wetlands Commission had approved the stormwater management plan and required a $10,000 bond. Vice Chair Michael Pratt moved approval; Commissioner Richard Testa seconded the motion, which passed 9-0.
The commission conducted routine business as well: members unanimously approved previous meeting minutes (motion by Marc Bronn, seconded by Robin Pivirotto, vote 9-0) and reelected officers. Michael Rupsis was reelected chairman (motion by Michael Pratt, seconded by Marc Bronn), Michael Pratt was reelected vice chairman (motion by Rupsis, seconded by Rick Molleur), and Marc Bronn was reelected secretary (motion by Jon Conte, seconded by Pratt); each motion passed 9-0.
Other administrative items included receipt of the written zoning enforcement report — which noted ongoing blight enforcement at 41 Noe Place and a rise in seasonal zoning permits — and a discussion about a proposed fee for on-site material processing (crushing) that staff will draft for future consideration.
The regular monthly meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.; the motion to adjourn was made by Jon Conte, seconded by David Dlugos, and carried (Aye-8, Oppose-0, Abstain-0).
