Sister City Committee discusses Halifax ties and possible port shuttle

At the June 18 meeting the Portsmouth Sister City Committee received an update on ties with Halifax, Nova Scotia, including outreach to Halifax’s mayor and ongoing conversations about a possible shuttle linking the two cities.
Chair (S2) said he had contacted Halifax’s mayor and noted Senator Shaheen’s support for municipal relationships. Committee member (S3) said he had spoken with the port director and that "that concept of the shuttle is still...at least in conversation," indicating the idea is being explored but remains unconfirmed.
Members discussed an earlier motion (noted by Chair (S2)) about a self-funded trip and the need to coordinate any visit with the port authority and the mayor’s office. The committee agreed to consider timing carefully, to identify who would travel on any delegation and to avoid conflicting agendas with the port authority or other stakeholders.
No formal decision or funding commitment was made; the committee asked members to continue outreach and to report back on specific dates and possible participants.
