Milton tables Planning Board plan-language revisions, schedules work session and public hearing; social-district concept discussed

The Milton board voted to table proposed Planning Board plan-language changes and set next-step dates for more deliberation.
Commissioner Robert (Bob) Palmer moved to table the Planning Board plan-language discussion until the Feb. 10, 2026 meeting; Commissioner Jackie Jeffries seconded the motion and "all were in favor," the minutes show. The board set a work session for Feb. 11 at 4:00 p.m. and scheduled a public hearing for Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Councilors also moved to follow any Planning Board recommendations on variance and conditional-use matters, a step Mayor Angela Upchurch said will guide subsequent decisions on those applications.
Under new business the council named Yanceyville Mayor Alvin Foster as the delegate to the Piedmont Triad Regional Council’s Executive Committee, and Finance Officer Elizabeth Lattime reported proposed budget amendments for Pace, US Water and Ace Code Enforcement. Lattime approved a $1,250 payment to Ace and noted that Pace and US Water have increased prices.
The council briefly discussed a proposed social district and noted that moving alcohol "from one place to another" when events are held would require a public hearing before the council, according to the discussion.
Routine procedural business at the start and end of the meeting included approval of the meeting agenda and the Dec. 16, 2025 minutes, and the meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
