Emery County Planning Commission recommends two applicants, approves minor subdivision amendment

The Emery County Planning and Zoning Commission on June 10 recommended Jessie Lobato and Laurel Kilpack to the Emery County Commission for appointment and voted to reopen advertising for two additional board seats and consider two late applications.

Natalie Olsen reported the two timely applications had been received before the deadline; commissioners discussed the current membership level after a recent resignation and emphasized maintaining geographic representation across the county. Bruce Wilson moved to recommend Lobato and Kilpack and to advertise for two additional positions, a motion seconded by Bart Cox and approved unanimously.

Separately, applicant Joe Humphrey presented an amendment to the previously approved Allred Acres Minor Subdivision. The change involved purchase of roughly one-half acre from Jared and Sinead Butler, incorporation of the existing access road into Lot 1 ownership, and expansion of the access corridor from a 12-foot to a 30-foot width. Commissioners discussed whether future subdivision ordinances should require wider access roads to ensure adequate residential and emergency vehicle access. Tyler Jeffs moved to approve the amendment; Bart Cox seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

The commission also briefly discussed a Hal Johnson/Rex Fillmore subdivision amendment but tabled that item because additional Recorder's Office information was pending. Bart Cox moved to table the application; Tyler Jeffs seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

The commission recorded no other business and adjourned; the next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
