Upper Saddle River honors police and ambulance crews with life‑saving medals

At its June 4 meeting, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Upper Saddle River recognized local first responders who aided a 40‑year‑old man during a heart attack.
Mayor Arman Fardanesh read the details of the incident and presented life‑saving medals to Upper Saddle River Police Sgt. Colin Gurney, Officers David Mende and Anthony Pulizzano, Detective Jake Chiavelli, and Ambulance Corps members Ellen Hillman and Christina Montanye. Dispatcher Gavin Smith received an Honorable Service Medal for his role in the response.
The council held a short medal ceremony to honor the actions of the officers and volunteers; no council action was required. The recognition acknowledged the coordinated effort between police dispatch, patrol officers and the ambulance corps that, according to the statement read at the meeting, helped preserve the individual’s life.
The council proceeded to its regular agenda following the ceremony.
