Ranlo to move archived meeting videos from Facebook to town YouTube channel after Facebook policy change

Town staff told the board July 10 that Facebook is changing its archiving policy and will delete videos older than 30 days beginning Aug. 30. To prevent losing the municipal archive, staff said they will download each meeting video from Facebook and upload replays to a newly created Town of Ranlo YouTube channel, which staff said offers long‑term archiving.
The town plans to continue live broadcasts on Facebook for 30 days and then post the replay to YouTube the following day. "We're going as long as we have as far as a year... so we're going to put them all onto the YouTube channel," a staff member said. The move is intended to preserve continuity for viewers while maintaining a permanent archive off Facebook.
Staff will provide guidance to residents about where to find replays and continue to live‑stream on Facebook for residents accustomed to that platform.
