Keep Winter Park Beautiful board names winners of Decorate Your Doorstep contest

The Keep Winter Park Beautiful and Sustainable advisory board voted June 30 to award the two prizes in the America 250 "Decorate Your Doorstep" contest after reviewing two submissions and a staff-provided rubric.

Staff member (the board’s program lead) told the board the contest was part of Winter Park’s America 250 festivities and offered two $250 prizes: one for "most beautiful" and one for "most sustainable." The staff presentation included daytime and nighttime photos, a checklist of sustainability features and brief descriptions supplied by the entrants.

Board discussion focused on the entries’ visual appeal and reported sustainability measures. Speaker 5 said the second submission provided more detailed and accurate sustainability information and recommended it for the sustainability prize. The board moved and seconded motions to award Submission 1 as "most beautiful" and Submission 2 as "most sustainable"; aye responses were recorded and the motions were approved.

"We only received two submissions, so this should be easy voting," staff said during the presentation. After the vote, staff thanked members and noted the awards decision was final for this contest cycle.
