Residents report late-night dump truck idling and weight-limit concerns; town will send letter

David Billings and John Evans told the Trappe Town Council that a neighbor is starting a dump truck at about 2 a.m., leaving it running, and that the truck may violate posted weight limits and has a modified exhaust that increases noise.
"My neighbor is starting his dump truck at 2 am and letting it run," Billings said, adding that the vehicle likely exceeds the posted weight limits on some town streets. John Evans told the council he is experiencing the same issue and said the truck’s exhaust has been modified. Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan said the Town will send a letter to the suspected violator and examine the state law decibel standard; the Town will report findings back to the residents.
Sgt. Aita and the sheriff’s department encouraged residents to call police when incidents occur so deputies can respond promptly. The town did not announce any immediate enforcement action beyond sending the letter and reviewing applicable state decibel thresholds.
