Martin County Board approves 2024–25 operating budget and budget resolution

The Martin County Board of Education approved its 2024–25 operating budget and budget resolution at the Oct. 7 meeting.
Miss Santora presented the proposed budgets and told the board the district’s total operating budget is $47,500,000, which the presentation broke down as $27,300,000 in state funds, $6,600,000 in local funds, and $7,900,000 in federal funds. She said the district requested $6,600,000 for capital outlay but that the county appropriated $666,060; the capital outlay as presented was $990,223 after rolling in prior approved carryover funds.
Miss Santora said the district’s local current expense request was $8,200,000; the county appropriated $6,200,000 and other estimated revenues totaled about $200,000, producing a proposed local total of $6,692,400 after appropriating roughly $250,000 of fund balance. When asked, she said the district’s fund balance was "a little over $3,000,000" and that some of the appropriated funds are carryovers for unfinished projects.
Board members moved and seconded the budget motion; the board approved the budgets and the budget resolution by voice vote.
The presentation included a note that federal allotments were not all received and may cause future budget amendments. The board asked for additional detail on specific capital items, including two HVAC units for South Creek Middle School costing roughly $38,000.
