Martin County Board elects Renee Purvis chair, approves school improvement plans for 2024–25

At its Dec. 2 meeting the Martin County Schools Board elected Renee Purvis as chair and Doug Baker as vice chair, then approved the 2024–25 school improvement plans after presentations from principals on priorities for academics, attendance and community partnerships.
The Martin County Schools Board reorganized its leadership and approved the district’s 2024–25 school improvement plans at its Dec. 2 organizational meeting.
After nominations and seconding procedures under board policy, Renee Purvis was elected board chair and Doug Baker was elected vice chair. The board approved the meeting agenda and consent agenda by voice vote.
Principals from the district gave presentations aligned to the district strategic priorities. Priority 1 (academics) includes goals for graduation, proficiency and growth; high school principal Mr. Mizzell described graduation supports such as a part‑time counselor focused on seniors, expanded test‑prep services and an active credit‑recovery program. Priority 2 targets attendance, family experience and employee experience through MTSS, translated communications and family outreach events. Priority 3 centers on community partnerships and increasing student service opportunities.
Board members moved to approve the school improvement plans after the presentations; the motion passed by voice vote. The chair thanked principals and staff for their work in preparing the plans.
