The City of Mebane announced holiday office closures and service schedule changes and reminded residents of a regional water maintenance program.
Host Kelly said all city offices will be closed Dec. 24–26 for Christmas and on Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. For the Christmas week, routes typically collected on Thursday and Friday were moved earlier in the week; for the New Year’s week, Thursday routes will be collected on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Kelly urged residents to have carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. and warned that missed carts may not be collected again during the holiday period.
Kelly said GFL Environmental, the city’s recycling provider, will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day; recycling pickup will occur the next business day (Friday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Jan. 2, respectively).
The city also reminded residents of an excess‑cardboard drop‑off at the Mebane Arts and Community Center (633 Corregidor Street); boxes must be emptied of plastic and Styrofoam, collapsed to fit the slotted container, and not left on the ground.
On water quality, the update said Mebane is participating with Graham, Green Level and Swepsonville in a regional chlorine burnout—a temporary switch from chloramines to chlorine—through April 1, 2026, to maintain water quality. The city said the water remains safe to drink and meets state and federal standards but customers may notice slight changes in color, taste or odor during the process.
No service interruptions beyond the adjusted collection days were announced.
