Rural Retreat council hears after‑prom funding request and approves town help with streetlight

Separately, a resident raised a request to install a streetlight on Betty Ridge. Staff reported that National/AEP would place the pole but that the household would be charged $7 per month to keep the light energized. Neighbors said that was an unfair burden given that subdivision development has generated additional town revenue.
Chair moved that the town accept the payment and assume responsibility for the streetlight installation and any ongoing arrangement required to provide the light. Council members discussed logistics: staff said there would be no installation fee and that ADT (the contractor identified) would install the light; staff also said they would order the service the next day. The council completed a voice vote and approved the motion by ayes.
The meeting also included other public comments on animal control and derelict properties; staff said they will check ownership records and follow up on properties on Jefferson and Buck Street.
The council’s next steps include processing the after‑prom payment as a budgeted expense and completing the streetlight order and billing setup with the utility provider.
