The City of Mebane on Jan. 6 approved a field‑use and program agreement with the Mebane Alamance Rams Lacrosse organization to expand youth lacrosse opportunities in the city. Parks and recreation staff (Aaron Davis, S15) recommended the arrangement, noting it will mirror other partnerships that bring outside technical resources and coaching to local rec programming.
Paul Galovich (S16), who coaches and founded the local Rams program, described efforts to build a middle-school lacrosse pipeline in Alamance County and said the Rams are a nonprofit that expects to provide instruction, spring sessions, summer camps and a possible June tournament once fields are available. Staff told the council the agreement will ensure city scheduling and CivicRec registration are used and that Mebane residents will receive a resident rate.
A council member moved to approve the agreement effective Jan. 6, 2025; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: the agreement brings organized coaching and program continuity to youth lacrosse in the area, which staff said can help build participation levels for middle- and high‑school teams and create local sporting opportunities.
What’s next: staff will finalize the agreement, take registrations through CivicRec and coordinate schedules and resident-rate provisions with the Rams.
