Prairie View A&M outlines 150th plans as EDC forms sponsorship committee and backs Crime Stoppers

Dr. Joanna Thomas Smith, presenting remotely, described the sesquicentennial theme and planned activities including a traveling exhibit, a documentary and campuswide events such as a lighting and pinning ceremony and a Hillfest. "[The anniversary] is rooted in resilience, rising in imminence," Dr. Thomas Smith said, framing the yearlong campaign as both a celebration and a platform for alumni engagement and philanthropic support.
Candice Johnson, the university's brand engagement officer, said the campaign aims to raise awareness of Prairie View's history, elevate the brand and inspire philanthropic contributions. She pointed participants to a project website (pbamu.edu/1fifty) and said the university would premiere a documentary at a film festival and again at homecoming.
Following the presentation, directors discussed purchasing sponsorship packages with Prairie View athletics to promote the city and drive traffic to the city's website. The board voted to form an initial sponsorship committee consisting of Dr. Brown, Colin Johnson and Councilwoman Wendy Williams to negotiate banner, digital and title-sponsorship packages and to recommend options tailored to the EDC's marketing objectives.
Separately, the EDC approved a Gold-level sponsorship of Waller County Crime Stoppers for $1,000 after Detective Sergeant Mendiola outlined how the fundraiser supports rewards for tips, equipment and training for regional law enforcement.
Other operational steps included a motion to provide directors with copies of executive-director resumes and agreement to pursue a qualified-vendor list and capability statements for photographers for city events.
The board asked the sponsorship committee to report back with recommended packages and projected costs and benefits for future budgeting and board approval.
