Norfolk council creates polling place at Norfolk State University to boost student access

Tara Alexander, director of retention and assessment in student affairs at Norfolk State University, and Nikkia Rollins, a retention assessment specialist, urged council support, saying the campus has facilities, accessibility features and parking capacity to host a polling place for thousands of students. "Establishing a polling location on the campus of Norfolk State University would significantly improve access to voting for thousands of students," Alexander told the council.
Council members recorded their votes by roll call and adopted the ordinance to amend precinct boundaries and add the Norfolk State Precinct and designated voting place.
What’s next: The adopted ordinance creates the precinct and identifies a campus voting place; the city and election officials will coordinate logistics and operations for upcoming elections.
