Ranlo announces community events, road-planning steps and police statistics for October

A staff member outlined upcoming community events: a senior Thanksgiving lunch on Nov. 23 at noon at the Ranlo Church of God, a motorcycle run that stages early in the morning on the 7th, and the town Christmas parade on Dec. 21 with lineup beginning at 11 a.m. and parade at 1 p.m. Staff noted slight changes in lineup timing to reduce congestion.
Staff reported the Ranlo Extension Project has begun; contractors are clearing the project corridor and work is underway between the two referenced roadways. Separately, staff proposed issuing an RFQ for a roads study to inventory town roads, material types and conditions so the town can prioritize resurfacing projects; staff suggested the town’s fund balance is available to support such work following consultation with the Local Government Commission.
At the meeting the police chief reported October statistics: 441 calls for service, 30 citations issued, 16 arrests, three DWIs and other call types including K-9 responses. The chief said the department continues to handle a wide range of calls and that most activity is routine patrol and response.
