Council approves nonbinding letter of intent for former Chesapeake City Elementary School redevelopment

The Town Council on June 8 approved a nonbinding Letter of Intent (LOI) relating to possible redevelopment of the former Chesapeake City Elementary School site. The LOI is a framework to give a potential developer time to investigate options and feasibility; it does not bind either party to a final project.
Frank Vari moved to approve the LOI; Ed O'Hara seconded and the motion carried. Meeting minutes note the developer will still be required to go through normal Planning Commission and mayor/council procedures for any future proposals.
The LOI therefore functions as an early-stage step to allow site analysis and preliminary planning; any formal zoning changes, site plans, or development approvals would be subject to separate public review and official action.
