Resident offers to coordinate volunteers for parks and gateway cleanup in Talent

"I want to be a volunteer volunteer coordinator for the city," Oxendine said, asking the council for city support for materials, debris hauling and assistance to make volunteer work parties safe and effective. He emphasized volunteers would not seek pay, but would need logistical support such as safety signage, waivers and hauling.
Mayor Ariswood and councilors thanked Oxendine and suggested volunteer efforts would best be coordinated through existing committees (for example, the urban forestry committee and other commissions) so volunteers are insured and supervised. Councilor Coley noted the urban forestry committee has previously coordinated thousands of volunteer hours and suggested staff and new public‑works employees work with committee liaisons to make such efforts additive rather than burdensome.
Next steps: the mayor asked council liaisons to check with their committees about opportunities to organize volunteer work parties and to report back to staff; staff will follow up with Mr. Oxendine about working within existing volunteer and liability processes.
