Chesapeake City council adopts FY2027 budget and sets property tax rate

Mayor Rich Taylor read a summary of Ordinance 2026-002 on June 8 and the Town of Chesapeake City Council voted to adopt the budget for fiscal year July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
The ordinance was introduced May 11; council held a public hearing on June 8 with notice published in the Cecil Daily and posted at Town Hall and on the town website. no members of the public spoke during the hearing. Ed O'Hara moved to adopt the ordinance; Sarah Ford-Ferrara seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
At the same meeting the council also approved Resolution 2026-005, establishing the real property tax rate for the same fiscal year. The resolution was approved by motion and recorded as carried.
Town Treasurer Brian Hunsberger distributed the monthly financial reports earlier in the meeting and the town manager, Rob Bernstine, provided the manager's report; council members thanked staff for work on the budget. The council's official adoption concludes the town's legislative budget process; any administrative implementation will be handled by town staff under the adopted appropriation and revenue plan.
The meeting record notes the public hearing notice was placed May 22 in the Cecil Daily Newspaper and on the town's website and at Town Hall.
