Kent County DHHS board approves reallocating unspent CUNP funds to Community Food Club; motion unanimous

Board Member Jerry Kooiman moved the open-session motion, which Vice Chair Betty Zylstra seconded. The motion instructed staff to reallocate the unspent CUNP funds to the Community Food Club, contingent on the club's ability to use the funding to purchase food within fiscal year 2026. The motion named SECOM as the secondary agency to receive the funds if the Community Food Club cannot use them in the same timeframe. The motion also requested expedited approval from the Kent County Board of Commissioners if such approval is required to allow the grantee time to fully spend the funds by the end of the fiscal year. The board carried the motion unanimously.
The board had first discussed the issue in closed session under section 8(h) of the Open Meetings Act, citing the need to review reallocating contract funds. The closed session began at 9:27 a.m. and the board reconvened at 9:36 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:48 a.m.
