The City of Brighton Bike Brighton Sub-Committee on May 13 approved the meeting agenda and minutes, assigned volunteers and logistics for several upcoming rides and events, and discussed who is responsible for installing bike racks on private property.
Chair Joey Arp called the meeting to order at 5:36 P.M. and the committee, with members present and staff on hand, voted 5-0 to approve the agenda after a motion by committee member David McWilliams and a second from Mark Humbert. Raschelle Chappelle moved to approve the minutes (the motion text in the transcript references August 7, 2025); McWilliams seconded and the minutes were recorded as approved, 5-0. The transcript contains an inconsistent reference to the minutes’ date; the committee recorded the approval vote but the minutes date cited in the motion differs from the agenda line item.
Staff member Amanda Aburto told the committee she will be out of the office for the Ride of Silence; Tyler Duckwork will attend in her place, collect water bottles and bring the city truck. Assignments for upcoming events were confirmed: McWilliams will bring armbands and poems; Mark Humbert will bring the ghost bike; Tyler will bring copies of the route. Aburto said she will create a raffle sign-up sheet and check what giveaways the committee can use for the BBQ, SummerFest and Touch-A-Truck events. The committee noted that Safety Ride class registration ends Friday at noon and Aburto will email a reminder to members.
On logistics, Aburto said she will confirm catering (burritos) for Martin Marietta and collect counts from city departments for Bike to Work Day. The group confirmed the event calendar through June, including the Full Moon ride on May 31, SummerFest on June 6 and Bike to Work Day on June 24. The committee also recorded that there will be no July meeting; the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 10, 2026, at the MSC Building.
Committee members raised a question about bike racks in private areas. The committee recorded that property owners would need to approve and purchase a rack for private property; Aburto said she will follow up with Kyle Sylvester and Travis Haines to clarify roles and next steps.
David McWilliams moved to adjourn at 6:13 P.M.; Mark Humbert seconded and the vote carried 5-0. The committee adjourned without further action.
