Kate Formal, chair of the Fairfax County Electoral Board, moved that the board certify all polling places have been assessed for accessibility using the Americans with Disabilities Act checklist provided by the Virginia Department of Elections and that those checklists be filed and retained in the local electoral board records.
Vice Chair Megan Challenger proposed a friendly amendment to require that the satellite early-voting locations have their paperwork filed by Aug. 1 so the board could confirm the satellite-site assessments were on file; the amendment was accepted and seconded. "The motion has been amended to include that we will provide that or have provided this by August 1," Challenger said.
The board voted after discussion; the chair called for those in favor and the motion carried. The certification language as read also cited "pursuant to section 24.2 dash 3 10 parenthesis c" (as read aloud in the meeting) to state the board's compliance assertion, and members recorded the vote in the minutes.
The board's action formalizes the recordkeeping and public certification of accessibility assessments; the amendment sets a firm date for confirming paperwork for satellite early-voting locations.
