The Carneys Point Township Committee on June 17 approved two hires in the police department and administered their oaths of office.
By unanimous vote on Resolutions 2026-115 and 2026-116, the committee authorized Austin A. Geary and Linnaya C. Owens as full‑time officers in the Carneys Point Police Department. Solicitor A. Telsey performed the oath of office for both officers. Police Chief D. VanNamee told the committee the two officers "will both start on July 1, go to the Police Academy and graduate in December." The committee and attendees welcomed the hires as local young people joining the department.
In departmental reporting, Dr. Johnson praised police and staff for their response to vandalism at Dunns Park and said the township obtained an estimate of $8,087 to install cameras by the dog park. Chief VanNamee said four juveniles will be charged $100 each and assigned 10 hours of community service for damage at the park; the township also intends to reject and rebid sallyport bids after procedural errors and over‑estimate bids were received.
The committee approved routine police‑related grants and budget insertions elsewhere on the agenda, including a Bullet Proof Vest Grant that was inserted into the 2026 budget. The discussion left follow‑up tasks for Public Works and police about camera procurement and rebidding security‑related projects.
